Brazil eVisa with Dual Nationality: Which Passport to Use?

If you have dual nationality and one of your passports is from a visa-free country, you can enter Brazil using that passport and do not need a Brazil eVisa. You only need an eVisa if you use the US, Canadian, or Australian passport.

How Dual Nationality Works with Brazil Entry

Brazil’s eVisa requirement is tied to the passport you present at the border, not your citizenship status. This means:

• If you enter with a US, Canadian, or Australian passport – you need a Brazil eVisa
• If you enter with a visa-free nationality passport (e.g., EU, UK, Japan) – no eVisa needed
• You can choose which passport to use at your discretion (some exceptions apply – see below)

Important: Use the Same Passport Throughout

Whichever passport you use to enter Brazil, use the same passport when you exit. If you enter with your EU passport, exit with your EU passport. Mixing passports at entry and exit can cause confusion and complications.

Special Cases for Dual Nationals

• Airline check-in: Some airlines may check both passports if you have two travel documents. Clarify in advance which nationality you are traveling as.
• US citizens abroad: The US does not restrict use of a second passport for entry into other countries, but US citizens must always enter and exit the US on their US passport.
